The Potential

Since virtually every product requires the use of electric motors at some stage in the manufacturing process, it is not surprising that the electric motor is the world’s largest consumer of energy. Research indicates that over 50% of drive-power energy could be saved if motors and drive systems became more efficient. To satisfy the growing demand for increased productivity and reduced CO2 emissions, governments from all corners of the globe have identified not only the need for improved energy efficiency, but also the barriers that sometimes hold manufacturers back from investing in new technology.

The Problem with 3-phase AC Induction Motors

When starting, an AC induction motor develops substantially more torque (150% to 200%) than is required at full speed, while drawing 8-10 times nominal current (In).
Result 1: the stress created by the excessive torque is transferred to the mechanical transmission system, resulting in excessive wear and premature failure of gears, belts, etc. Damage can be inflicted on the machinery which can be dangerous and expensive to correct.
Result 2: the sudden draw of 8-10 times nominal current could, apart from consuming more electricity than needed, destabilize the power supply and disrupt production.

DR. POWER provides a simple and effective solution to these problems. It constantly monitors the motor’s load and calculates the exact amount of power required at any time - reducing the amount of electricity used, increasing the life-span of motors, reducing maintenance requirements and reducing the amount of Carbon Dioxide produced.
