DR. POWER - FAQ
1. What are the problems with AC 3-phase induction motor?
When starting, an AC induction motor develops substantially more torque (150% to 200%) than is required at full speed, while drawing 8-10 times nominal current (In). Result 1: the stress created by the excessive torque is transferred to the mechanical transmission system, resulting in excessive wear and premature failure of gears, belts, etc. Damage can be inflicted on the machinery which can be dangerous and expensive to correct. Result 2: the sudden draw of 8-10 times nominal current could, apart from consuming more electricity than needed, destabilize the power supply and disrupt production.
2. How does DR. POWER works?
DR. POWER works as a soft starter & energy saver. Through its embedded software it continuously monitors the “efficiency” of the motor to ensure the input power to the motor is matched exactly to the load as it changes.
3. What benefits can DR. POWER provide?
DR. Power provides immediate and long term benefits including – Soft Start, Optimization, Soft Stop, Improved Power Factor and Lower Maximum Demand. It increases reliability and produces a more efficient, cooler operating, smoother and quieter motor with increased life and reduced maintenance costs.
4. What does Soft Start mean?
Soft start is an electronics term describing any circuit which reduces excess current during initial power-up.
5. What is the averaged energy saving rate for DR. POWER?
The saving rate will largely depend on the operating conditions and parameters of the motor. The more time the motor is running under light-loaded or even empty loaded condition, the higher the saving rate could be. It can be up to 40% according to our client reference.
6. What is the product range of DR. POWER?
Tri-phase/ 380–440Volts/ 2.2 - 315 KW OR Tri-phase/ 220Volts/ 2.2 - 186 KW. If you would like to order any models out of our product range, please consult with our sales people.
7. What kind of application can DR. POWER be used?
DR. POWER is highly recommended for Air Agitators, Baggage handling, Bottling lines, Circular saws, Compressors, Conveyors, Crushers, Die-casting machines, Drying plant, Escalators, Extruders, Granulators, Grinders, Injection-moulding, Hydraulic systems, Machine tools, Mixers and blenders, Oil Wells, Paper refiners, Pulpers, Presses, Pumps, Refrigeration, Sewing machines, Vacuum-forming weaving, knitting, etc.
8. Is DR. POWER suitable for air-condition or elevator?
No, DR. POWER is not suitable for air-condition or elevator because the working principle of them leaves very little saving space for DR. POWER.
9. Does DR. POWER generate harmonics?
In common with all Thyristor based switching devices, DR. POWER produces harmonics during Ramp Up, Ramp Down and in the Optimizing mode. The only significant harmonics generated are the 5th and the 7th. All harmonics figures are much lower than the recommended range.
10. What is the unit price of DR. POWER?
Please consult with our sales people and refer to the most updated price list.
11. What is the service life of DR .POWER?
The average service life is 5 years and we guaranteed it for a period of 2 years commencing with the date of purchase.
12. Is DR. POWER available in single-phase model?
No.
13. How to select the right model for DR. POWER?
It is recommended that you have a site survey for the motors, in order to obtain electrical parameters such as capacity, power factor, current, etc.
14. Is the installation of DR. POWER complicated?
The installation is easy and any qualified electrician can do the job, but it is highly recommended that the operator should read our Installation and Commissioning Manual before installation.
15. Is OEM service available?
Yes. Please consult with our sales people for details.
16. What kind of technical support do you provide?
For technical issues, please refer to the Installation and Commissioning Manual. If the problems still exist or they are not stated in the manual, please email or call our sales people and they will do their best to help. You’re also welcome to bring your technical people to visit our factory.
17. How long is the production time?
Production time is usually two weeks after client’s confirmation of order.
18. Can we use one DR. POWER on more than one motors?
No. For an accurate reading of the load conditions and operating parameters, DR. POWER can only be used on one motor.
19. Do you provide spare fuses for DR. POWER?
